LAHORE: The government has decided to maintain the minimum wage at Rs 17,000 in the budget. Finance Ministry officials said that when the salaries and pensions of the employees were not increased, then the minimum wage would be increased. Additions are not justified. According to media reports, Finance Ministry officials said that the budget for the next financial year 2020-21 did not increase the salaries and pensions of employees in view of the economic situation, which was a very difficult and unpopular decision for the government. Because the Corona situation has had a very negative effect on the economy. Employees' salaries and pensions have not been increased to control government spending. When the salaries of the employees were not increased, then it was not possible to increase the minimum wage of the workers. Therefore, the minimum wage has been maintained at Rs. 17,500. It should be noted that after the federal budget, the Punjab government is going to present the provincial budget on Monday, June 15. It is learned that Punjab has also decided not to increase the salaries and pensions of government employees following the federal government. The Punjab Finance Department says that in view of the federation, the Punjab government will not increase or decrease salaries and pensions. Similarly, the Punjab government has cut the financial budget of Punjab Police by Rs 27 billion in 2020-21. It was reported that Punjab Police had demanded Rs 1.58 trillion from the government in the new financial year budget for the salaries of police officers and protection of citizens. The government has cut Rs 27 billion in the budget and allocated Rs 131 billion for the Punjab police. In this regard, police sources said that 80% of the police budget will be spent on salaries. After which Punjab Police will be able to spend Rs 1,097 on the protection of citizens. On the other hand, due to the cut imposed on the Punjab police by the government, the police will be provided money in proportion to the cut instead of getting Rs 18 billion in the investigation limit.
